An eleven-strong Waystone team, headed up by Friendship Ball Chair Cyril Delamare, has embarked on an exciting challenge cycle from Dublin to London to fundraise for sick children in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres and Great Ormond Street Hospital London.

This four-day adventure will see the team challenging themselves physically and mentally as they cross Wales and England and cover 500km. The team will arrive in London ahead of the fifth annual Friendship Ball, and all funds from the ball itself, and the cycle challenge, will go to Children’s Health Foundation and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The funds raised from the Friendship Ball will go to support a Precision Oncology research project, which will use cutting edge technology to develop personalised cancer treatments, as well as two state-of-the-art digitally advanced patient rooms at Great Ormond Street Hospital, improving patient and family’s experiences during their time spent in hospital.

Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Children’s Health Foundation said “The Friendship Ball will mark the fifth annual event, supporting sick children both in Ireland and the UK and making vital paediatric research possible; research that has the potential to transform young lives into the future. The funds raised from this event will support vital research into childhood cancer.

“We are tremendously grateful to Cyril and the team at Waystone for taking on this exciting cycling challenge to raise vital funds and we wish the entire team the very best of luck and a safe journey as they take to the road.”

Cyril Delamare of Waystone and Chair of the Friendship Ball said “The Waystone team is excited to embark on a challenging cycle ride that will link two vital leads in paediatric healthcare – Children’s Health Foundation, supporting Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. This adventure was originally planned for 2020 but has been delayed due to COVID-19, so we are delighted to finally be able to make this a reality.

We would like to thank the financial services industry and our friends for their financial support and advice. Our aim is to arrive in London having raised ÂŁ75,000 and so we still have some more fund raising to do.”
