Children’s Health Foundation partner Swim Ireland raise over €15,000 with their annual Swim for a Mile campaign
Children’s Health Foundation were thrilled to welcome Swim Ireland to Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street, where we were presented with a cheque for an amazing €15,229, which was raised through their 2023 Swim for a Mile campaign. The donation will help sick children receiving care in Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres at Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght and Connolly.
We were joined by the team at Swim Ireland who organised the successful event and two Olympic athletes, Shane Ryan an Ellen Walshe, who greeted Children’s Health Ireland’s patients Emily and Rueben. Both patients were cheered on by the Children’s Health Ireland staff and their loving family, as they stole the show during the cheque presentation!
Emily and Rueben, two swimming superfans, got the chance to catch up with two-time Olympic Swimmer Shane Ryan and Olympian and recent European Under 23 Double Champion Ellen Walshe. Both Emily and Rueben were delighted to meet the athletes and get to view the medals from their recent accolades. It was great seeing Swim Ireland Olympians inspiring the younger generation as they now prepare for a busy season of racing ahead with sights set firmly on the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Swim for a Mile is an annual 12-week programme, run by Swim Ireland, aiming to get people back into the pool. The goal is to complete a mile swim while also raising money for charity. This year, almost 1000 participants across 11 events and virtual challenge, in all corners of Ireland. The 2023 Swim for a Mile campaign resulted in being Swim Ireland’s second-highest amount raised by the programme, in its history.
