Say hello to Monty the Monkey - Tesco's plush toy in aid of Children's Health Foundation

This festive season, Tesco Ireland is proud to announce the arrival of Monty the Monkey – a new plush toy that will be available to purchase in all Tesco stores nationwide and for the first time, online, from Saturday, 26th November. Made from 100% recycled materials, Monty the Monkey will be available for €5 with all proceeds directly donated to Children’s Health Foundation.

Earlier this year, Tesco ran a competition for the children attending Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres to name the Christmas 2022 teddy bear. This year, Noah Erlacher-Chigwedere, aged eight, from Lucan, Co. Dublin and a patient of Children’s Health Ireland at Connolly, was chosen as the winner.

Children’s Health Foundation and Tesco Ireland are committed to supporting sick children in need and since 2014, Tesco Ireland has been a proud supporter of Children’s Health Foundation raising a whopping €7.5 million for Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street. All funding has been used to purchase vital medical equipment to help treat Ireland’s sick children.

Rosemary Garth, Communications Director, Tesco Ireland said: “We are thrilled to introduce Monty the Monkey to Tesco customers this Christmas season, and would like to thank Noah for giving Monty its wonderful name. Every year, we are truly inspired by the incredible work carried out by the Children’s Health Ireland team, who work tirelessly for children in Ireland 365 days a year. The impact our customers’ and colleagues’ generosity has had in supporting the treatment of sick children is one to be proud of and we are delighted to play our part this year.”

Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Children’s Health Foundation said: “Every year, Tesco Ireland goes the extra mile to support sick children. This year, is no different with its support for Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, Temple Street, Tallaght and Connolly, and we are thrilled and so appreciative of the fantastic Monty the Monkey fundraiser this Christmas season.

The support received from Tesco colleagues and customers have significantly improved the quality of life for sick children  as a result of our wonderful eight-year partnership. Tesco employees and customers have raised money that has allowed the hospital to buy a variety of necessary and life-saving equipment. This Christmas, we need your support more than ever, and  hope everyone can participate in this wonderful campaign by purchasing a Monty the Monkey plush toy at their local Tesco.”

Since 2001, Tesco Ireland has fundraised over €22 million for Irish charities.  Funding donated through Tesco has helped the hospital purchase over 330 pieces of vital equipment for patients – including a CT Scanner, EEG system, ultrasound scanners, patient monitors and respiratory equipment.  This year alone, Tesco Ireland has raised over €650,000 for Children’s Health Foundation, to support the life-saving work across all Children’s Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres.

Tesco customers are encouraged to be real-life heroes and participate in this effort to raise much-needed funds for Children’s Health Foundation by going to their local Tesco store or visiting www.tesco.ie to purchase Monty the Monkey for €5, with all proceeds going to Children’s Health Foundation.
