Johnson's Baby continues their partnership with Children's Health Foundation, launching a new sensory hub at Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin

On the 30th of May, we welcomed Angela Crawley, from Johnson’s Baby to launch the new sensory hub at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. The experts at Johnson’s understand that every sick child grows, and the big wide adult world can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Their mission is to help give all children the best start, each day. That is why as part of our third year of partnership with Johnson’s baby, they continue to support initiatives providing practical support across Children’s Health Ireland locations, this year with the launch of the ‘Cubbie’, a sensory hub in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin.

The Cubbie sensory hub is a self-contained unit, that is housed within the Outpatients and Phlebotomy Department in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. With potential to help all children and adolescents attending the hospital; in particular those who need an extra sense of calm at their appointments.

It allows each patient to adapt the hub environment to match their sensory needs.  Featuring LED lighting, sounds, visual effects and laser projection, the patient can escape to a bespoke calming space from within a compact unit, in a busy hospital department.

The sensory break experience can be designed for each patient and saved, making it available for care staff and patients for those attending the department regularly. The Cubbie’s award winning, inclusive design is wheelchair friendly with accessible settings, ramp and adaptable seating options including a sling and rocker.

Every year, over 150,000 children pass through the doors at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin; with approximately 84,000 attending the Outpatient and Phlebotomy Department. Many of these children have additional physical and sensory  needs, often finding the hospital environment distressing and overwhelming. Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, has the busiest paediatric Outpatients and Phlebotomy Department services across the four CHI sites, but it is the only one without a sensory space, until now. This year’ support from Johnson’s Baby, in partnership with Children’s Health Foundation, brings the ‘Cubbie’ to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin.

Nessa O’ Reilly, Head of Strategic Giving at Children’s Health Foundation, thanked Johnson’s Baby for their support to bring this sensory space to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Johnson’s® Baby to provide another initiative that will have real and practical benefits for young patients and their families attending Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. We want to thank the Johnson’s® Baby team for supporting sick children, and through the Cubbie, bringing this much needed sensory space into being, helping reduce anxiety and stress of hospital visits”.

Speaking about the launch of the Cubbie, Angela Crawley, Senior Commercial Marketing Manager for Johnson’s Baby added  ” We are delighted to continue our partnership with Children’s Health Foundation and provide practical support for Children’s Health Ireland. The Cubbie in place will ultimately lead to a more productive and beneficial experience for both patients and outpatients”.

We cannot thank Johnson’s Baby enough for their incredible generosity, kindness and support.
