Tesco’s Deposit Return Scheme

Tesco shoppers can support Children’s Health Foundation through Tesco Deposit Return Scheme

Children’s Health Foundation is proud to be one of seven national children’s charities benefiting from Tesco’s new Deposit Return Scheme initiative.

Shoppers visiting any of Tesco’s  stores nationwide can return their empty plastic bottles and cans at reverse vending machines and choose to donate their deposit refunds directly to children’s charities. These donations are shared equally among the seven partners: Childline by ISPCC, Children’s Health Foundation, the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, LauraLynn Children’s Hospice, Make-A-Wish Ireland, Barretstown, and Barnardos.

All funds received by Children’s Health Foundation will go towards supporting vital projects and services that improve the health,  and wellbeing,  of sick children and their families across Ireland.

Even with a modest estimate of fewer than 5% of refunds donated by Tesco shoppers, this initiative could generate up to €1 million for the participating charities this year.

Since the scheme launched in February 2024, over 200 million bottles and cans have been recycled at Tesco stores, with an average of 4.5 million items returned each week. This new donation option offers a simple way for customers to help protect the environment while also making a real difference in the lives of children.
