Kilkenny fundraiser reaches €750,000 milestone for
Temple Street Children’s University Hospital
A long-running community fundraising initiative led by John Holohan has reached a major milestone, with a total of €750,000 raised in support of Temple Street Children’s University Hospital over the years.
Nearly €100,000 of this amount was raised in December alone, following months of dedicated effort by John, his team of volunteers and supporters. As part of the campaign, participants travelled hundreds of miles across Ireland, journeying from Ennis to Dublin to help secure vital funding for children’s healthcare.
The funds were formally presented at a community event in Crosspatrick on Friday, where John and his son Danny outlined how the donation would support out-of-hours physiotherapy services for patients and specialised education in paediatric cardiac surgical training.
The campaign reflects a strong family and community spirit. John’s granddaughter, Sarah, played her part by raising €291 through her own bottle recycling initiative, while additional funds were raised on the night through a raffle organised by Donal Phelan, featuring prizes donated by local supporters.
This milestone represents an extraordinary collective achievement and will make a meaningful difference to the children and families cared for by our hospital.
