Years of hospital appointments followed, and in 2018, Saoirse was diagnosed with Alport syndrome – the same hereditary kidney condition as her dad. Despite every effort from her medical team, Saoirse’s kidney function declined, and in 2024 she began dialysis.

Saoirse Story

Saoirse was born a healthy baby. But before she was one, a serious kidney infection changed everything.

Years of hospital appointments followed, and in 2018, Saoirse was diagnosed with Alport syndrome – the same hereditary kidney condition as her dad, Gary. Despite every effort from her medical team, Saoirse’s kidney function declined, and in 2024 she began dialysis.

Hospital has become a big part of her life. Long stays. Weekly trips from Clare to Dublin. Big changes for a young girl. But through it all, Saoirse’s spirit shines. From hosting Eurovision parties on the ward to setting up her own “hair salon” for staff and patients, she brings joy wherever she goes.

Saoirse is now on the transplant waiting list, and her family are holding onto hope for the call that will change everything.
